Bangalow

There's so much to do and places to explore in this beautiful part of the world we didn't mind the grey day.  We hired a car and headed into the hinterland, a short drive to the gorgeous old town Bangalow.

I love how the shop exteriors with verandahs have been kept in their original state unlike a lot of Australian country towns where verandahs were removed.

Looking across to Cape Byron

Half the fun is driving there. The scenery is something else. Such an idyllic landscape with rolling green hills overlooking the coast.

Bangalow has fantastic, unique shops as well as great cafes and restaurants. We stopped off at the Byron farmers' markets on our way and sampled some beautiful local produce so we didn't need lunch. More about that later.

A popular tourist spot that's busy on weekends.  Being a weekday in the off season we almost had the place to ourselves. We remembered some of the shops we'd seen before on our last visit, my kids loved this Japanese shop Little Peach when they were younger.

Heath's old wares is a treasure trove of vintage collections.

I think this Lazybones shop is a collaboration with Heaths in a gorgeous old weatherboard building with wrap around balcony.

The Bronte Tram is a shop I regularly drive past and sometimes stop to admire when there's a parking spot at the front. 
Full of interesting and beautiful arrangements, it's a great place to take photos and be inspired. An ever changing collection of antique furniture and treasures, with a French seaside flavour.

I think this post might have been inspired by Dirty Janes. It would be fun to set up a small shop there and a way to clear some of the vintage stuff I've accumulated. 
This is a collection of some recent finds from my travels to garage sales,  2nd hand shops, blogging friends and my mum's house. I've had a set of aqua mason jars for a while, this one just looked good in the photo.

I love this bathing beauty on a Byron Bay cookie tin found at a garage sale. 

This old chocolate tin belonged to my grandmother. I love the colour and the fact that it was used by her and is now useful for me. It's already filled with some of my beads and things. You can never have enough tins and wooden boxes.
The buttons & button box also belonged to her, she was a great sewer and knitter who grew up in a family of tailoresses.

The piles of old books, spoons and tea towels were from Dirty Janes. I seem to have my usual blue and white thing happening here again.

I found this lovely linen tablecloth at a pop-up 2nd hand store that has popped up in our local shopping area. The old keys were found by my partner in finds on the side of the road.

vintage treasures

Following my previous post these are a couple of vintage wares shops I visited. I've always loved the name of The Everything Store in the tiny village of Sutton Forest. It's been there for as long as I can remember and a lot longer than that.. a store since the 1830's. I'm sure a lot of you have driven past or stopped and are familiar with this part of the world.

Newer to the area is Dirty Janes Emporium, a treasure trove of vintage and antique wares on the main street of Bowral. Out the back is a flea market with over 50 small stores.
I had fun getting lost in here for a while!

I bought a couple of small things that will probably show up in future posts. I couldn't resist that pile of blue books.
The table made with an old door is something I might one day do with mine.
