herb garden

This is something I prepared earlier, before Christmas. Winning some cute herb markers made from old spoons as part of a prize in Deanne's giveaway inspired me to buy some more herbs and get planting.
The old door is another great Steve find. I liked the original weathered green colour, but white won out and I like it even better now with all the other white painted furniture on the deck.

I love the look of plants in old boxes & I finally got around to trying some stencilling with the stencils I bought here. I painted an old box found at a garage sale white and decided to use grey paint and one of my lucky numbers.
I'm a bit superstitious about numbers. 26 happens to be the date of my birthday, my daughter's birthday and amazingly the date both of my sets of grandparents were married on the same day at the same time!

I've since planted these plants into larger pots where they are now much bigger & thriving in the heat. You might be interested, the larger herb in the box is stevia, a natural sweetener.

4 is my lucky number....on my 44th birthday I sat at table 44 at the surfclub and toasted my birthday at 4.44pm. I was born on 5th of the 4th so missed out by one day!

  5. Those herb markers are wonderful and your herb garden looks so good. I haven't heard of stevia before but after doing research have found it grows in tropical areas. Do you use it cooking?

  6. Oh how cute is this post! I soo miss seeing green and being out in the garden...

Okay, one of my New Years resolutions is taking the time to leave more notes for my blogging friends! I always read posts in a reader and it makes it hard to leave a comment or two. But I do not miss a post! Love seeing the things you share and your lovely home. I wish I had more time to blog, but I work part time at our local library. I wanted to share with you my new blog, just opened this week.... http://www.brookekroeger.blogspot.com.... it will be for my vingage and digital work... including printables you might enjoy. I also have my home and garden site, http://www.creativecountrymom.blogspot.com. This week I am doing a look back to my spring garden.

Hope to be able to connect more in this new year. I am spending less time on Facebook and gave up twitter and everything else. A girl needs time to create, decorate and GARDEN ya know!

    God bless....Brooke

  7. This is a lovely spot. Photographed beautifully. My next project is to grow herbs. My hubby uses stevia in his coffee and tea. I like mine black. I have so many favorite/lucky numbers and now they are all mixed with hubby's.

  8. The combination of white, green & blue is so crisp! Really enjoying it.

I also stay away from sugar, my Naturopath put me onto Xylitol - sounds like a chemical sweetener, but is made from bark.

  19. well, so much for getting some rest! instead I started perusing some posts that I had missed.. then I saw the patio vignette and I love this one. I have that same small square folding table, unfinished ( was a yard sale find)..it's in my sunroom waiting for me to finish sanding down the old veneer, so I can paint it white also.. and this week am waiting on some wooden wine boxes being sent to me-which I will paint white-, both for the porch and for a project I am doing to donate to a girls safe house. Love the idea of the grey stencils... was thinking about using a distressed aqua or navy for lettering, but I really like the softness that the pale grey stencils gives. and for the number 26?.. it's my house number! again, Cheryl thanks so much for all you do to bless us through your amazing blog. Have a wonderful weekend!
