the fish shop

i'm excited to show you my new favourite cafe.
surprisingly it's only a couple of kilometres from the heart of sydney in potts point.

designed by sibella court who spent several years in new york. the inspiration - the hampton's, cape cod, nantucket & her trips to montauk roadside clam shacks that flip up their awnings & shutters in summer.
she scoured australia for the old fishing nets, glass bottles, old canvas sails, rods, lines & lures that line the rustic walls of the bar. japanese fishing floats and lobster pots become lights. a collection of shells from the fifties cover the shelves.

enjoying a weekday off with my daughter & a lovely lunch. the food was great, everything was delicious and so fresh. oops..i forgot to take a photo.

it's run by renowned chef jeremy strode, who uses local, sustainable and organic produce.

the fantastic bathrooms with clever port hole mirrors... wondering how i can make one.

love the enamel wear jugs & rope door handles. our meals were served on vintage enamel plates.

the amateur fishing club bar where everyone is welcome.
the walls are lined with old floorboard that make it the feel like you're in an old boat shed.

the society inc

i thought you'd all enjoy a trip to the society inc in the sydney suburb of paddington. this amazing shop belongs to sibella court, one of australia's most well known stylists.
it's like an old hardware and habidashery store filled with interesting collections, homewares & curiosities from her travels all over the world. so inspiring! sorry about the poor quality photos taken on the ipod.

sibella's new book 'the biography of a bowerbird' is due to be released in october. it's all about collections and collecting with ideas on how to display them in your home.
i'll be back later in the week to show you some snippets from the new book. with the first chapter called beachcombing, it's one i'm looking forward to.

iggy's by the sea

today i'm taking you to iggy's bakery.. mainly to share with you this counter at the front of the shop!
being on a grain free diet (long story) unfortunately i can't be tempted by the gorgeous sourdough bread and bagels. what draws me here is the sea green paintwork of this beautiful old counter and the gorgeous sign writing on the window.

apparently the owners moved to bronte beach from cambridge massachussets USA, where they had / have? a successful business. you can read more about iggy's famous bread on the USA website here.

it's right near the three blue ducks
- a great cafe if you're in the area.

pacific coast

what a difference the sun makes.. & 20ºc in the middle of july is ok by me.
after the rain the bronte to tamarama coastal walk was a popular place to be & you got the feeling the surfers couldn't get out quick enough.

thanks so much for all your lovely comments about my health.
starting to feel better.

lakota trading

hi..

today i'm taking you to a great shop i visited last week 'lakota trading'. not far from where i live but not on one of my usual tracks, i had noticed it before but never called in. it's in a gorgeous old building with sunshine streaming through the windows. alex the owner is an artist as you can tell by all the thoughtful arrangements of vintage, rustic antiques. lots of beautiful green & aqua italian wine bottles, rustic tables, ladders, crates, nautical pieces and so many interesting things to photograph. i took many..
a popular stop for stylists who feature alex's things in magazines.
